Initialism

An initialism is an abbreviated form of a brand’s name created from the first letters of each word, pronounced individually rather than as a single word. While similar in appearance to an acronym, the key difference is in pronunciation. For example, CNN, NBC, and AT&T are initialisms, whereas NASA is an acronym.

Using an initialism allows brands with long or complex names to create a simpler, more recognizable identity. It also provides versatility across platforms, from logos to digital channels, while keeping communication concise.

Effective initialisms are short, memorable, and easy to pronounce letter by letter. They are especially common among media companies, global corporations, and organizations that want a professional, compact identity.
